Thank you!

to everyone who made this event a stimulating and informative day. As ever, we hope you left with more and better questions than you started with: and maybe even some answers. The links on this site have been updated to reflect the now historical nature of the course. You can find the slides and a link to the recording of the Elluminate session on the Resources page.

Our next live on line workshop Digital Literacies is on 10 March 2010. Details will be circulated shortly.

One-day on-line workshop

Wednesday 20 January 2010

0930 – 1530
In Elluminate

Aims

  • to explore the nature of identity and then its subcategory of digital identity
  • to consider the concept of identity projects and how these might be enacted – in part – online or digitally
  • to examine our own online identity practices and activities
  • to set the concept of online identity in a contemporary context in which there are multiple uses of the term identity circulating in a number of public discourses
  • to present the notion of hybridity through key texts in (digital/online) identity studies, Bayne’s (2004) Mere Jelly, Bhabha’s (2004) Location of Culture, Haraway’s (1985) Cyborg Manifesto

Learning outcomes

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • articulate their own understanding of the nature of human identity and how this is worked out in online/digital environments
  • explain their own online practices in terms of identity projects
  • explain steps that can be taken to better manage their online identity practice
  • build on the concept of multiple hybrid identities in order to more effectively represent themselves to different audiences in different spheres.
